Candace K Kizer was born on January 6, 1960, in Viborg, SD to Courtney and Leola (Schelske) Kizer. She earned her angels’ wings on December 13, 2022, at the age of 62 while a resident of the Sanford Vermilion Care Center. A Memorial service will be held at Hansen Funeral Home- Vermillion on Thursday, January 5, 2023, beginning at 2:00PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior. A Graveside Committal service will be held at a later date.
Candace Kaye Kizer was born on Jan 6, 1960, in Viborg, SD to Courtney & Leola (Schelske) Kizer. She earned her angel wings on Dec 13, 2022, at the age of 62 while a resident of The Vermillion Care Center.
Candy had an outgoing personality and greeted everyone she met. She will be remembered for her jovial nature; and love of reading and doing puzzle books.
Candy attended school in Wakonda for a few years then transitioned to a Special Ed Program in Meckling and later Vermillion. She also lived at Sioux Vocational in Sioux Falls; Yankton Area Adjustment Training Center and then moved to Vermillion where she was a resident of Southeast South Dakota Activity Center (SESDAC) for the past 40 years. This amazing group of people became not only her friends, but she considered them her family, both the residents & staff. Candy was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Wakonda and was a 20-year member of Gingrich-Dixon Unit #13 American Legion Auxiliary.
Candy is survived by her siblings: Courtney (Peg) Kizer of Marshall MN; Terry Kizer of Buffalo Gap, SD; Pat Girard of Wakonda, SD; Mike Kizer of Cleveland, TX and Cindy Sorensen of Wakonda, SD; also including many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Candy was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law Marvin Girard; sister-in-law Lucy Kizer; nephew Matt Kizer and niece Peyton Giles.
