Carla Hybertson, age 68, of Viborg, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, surrounded by her loving family.
Carla Renee Larsen was born on June 16, 1957, in Viborg SD, to Rolland and Alice (Johnson) Larsen. She grew up in Viborg and graduated from Viborg High School. From a young age, Carla had a creative spirit and a caring heart, traits that shone brightly throughout her life.
On June 30, 1980, Carla married James “Jim” Hybertson, of Centerville. They raised two sons, Jared and Jordon, who were the center of her world. Carla took immense pride in watching her boys grow, always supporting their activities and celebrating their accomplishments. Just as she continued to do with her grandchildren.
Following high school, Carla pursued her passion for flowers, beginning her career as a florist at Anderson Flowers in Sioux Falls. Her talent and creativity blossomed, leading her to open her own flower shop in Viborg, The Green Thumb, With her sister Debbie. She later continued her floral work at a shop in Beresford, where she was known for her artistic arrangements and attention to detail.
In addition to her floral work, Carla enjoyed serving others as a part-time bartender in several local establishments in Viborg, Swan Lake and Centerville. She had a gift for making people feel welcome—always ready with a snack, a smile, and a friendly conversation.
Carla’s many interests reflected her generous and joyful nature. She loved flowers, plants, animals, and especially her beloved cats and dogs. Along with the random orphan and stray animals that would find her to rescue. She found peace in bird watching and joy in cooking, canning, pickling and baking for family and friends—her pickles, fudge, peanut brittle, and rosettes were famous at the holidays.
A talented and creative soul, Carla also loved crocheting, sharing her warmth through the many beautiful Afghan blankets she made for loved ones. She enjoyed softball, puzzles, crafts, music, and singing, with a fondness for classics by Patsy Cline, Judy Garland, and The Judds. Halloween was one of her favorite times of year, and she delighted in bringing a bit of fun and festivity to those around her.
Above all, Carla cherished her family. She adored her sons and found immeasurable joy in her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as Nana.
Carla is preceded in death by her father, Rolland C. Larsen; her mother, Alice A. (Larsen) Nelsen; Stepmother, Dorothy Larsen; and her uncles and aunts Lowell Larsen, Glen and Dorothy Johnson, Robert and Dagmar Johnson.
