Chris Marie Gylfe

Christine Marie Gylfe, 69, of rural Beresford, SD passed away unexpectedly at Avera Mckennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Hansen Funeral Home-Vermillion from 5:00-7:00PM with a Prayer service at 7:00PM. Memorial service will take place Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Gayville-Volin United Methodist Church beginning at 10:00AM. All are welcome to join the family for a meal and fellowship immediately following the service at the Gayville Community Center.

Christine was born on September 2nd, 1954.  She was the first of seven children born to Doris and Curtis Brown.  She graduated from Vermillion High School in 1972.  Chris had two daughters, Alison and Laura Brown.   She went on to marry Darald Gylfe on March 6th, 1993.  Chris had a variety of jobs that ranged from police dispatcher to photography studio manager to customer service representative.

Chris enjoyed photography and flower gardening.  She would often enter her photos of landscapes and flowers into contests and win.  Spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren was her number one priority and passion.  She loved watching them all participate in the things they enjoyed such as dance and sporting activities.  Many family members were gifted one of her hand made baby blankets over the years.  Her and Darald frequently went for drives around the countryside so she could bicker with him about his driving skills. Most evenings you would find Chris watching Wheel of Fortune- just like her mom, Doris. All of Chris' extended family meant the world to her and most years she would start buying Christmas presents for them in February.

She is survived by her husband, Darald Gylfe, Beresford, SD; her two daughters, Alison Brown, Gayville, SD; Laura Birt (Justin), Mesa, Arizona; grandchildren Alexander Wolhoy (Michelle), Carter Barron, Avaylyn and Brinley Birt; great grandchildren Grayson and Evelyn Wolhoy; siblings Claudia Sandau (Garry), Carrie Kleinschmit (Mike), Cindy Kleinschmit (Norman), Bill Brown (Cheryl), Vicki Kleinschmit (Dennis), and Chad Brown (Tatiana); stepsisters Debb, Cathy, and Eva; stepfather Ken Orr, mother-in-law Shirley Gylfe. In-laws Ronald, Helene (Steve), Reynold, Arlene, Harland (Arlinda), Roland (Kaye), Jolene (Rob); her newly found family the Millette's; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Oh, and everyone on Facebook who would wish her a good morning and good night!

She was preceded in death by her parents Doris Brown and Curtis Brown, father in-law Elwood Gylfe, and brother-in-law Steve Sandau.
