Clifford Deverell

Clifford Otto Deverell, 70, of Vermillion, died on Friday, July 5, 2019, after a short battle with cancer.
Cliff was born in Rockford, Iowa, on November 15, 1948 to Ralph and Ruth (Ziebell) Deverell. After graduating from Rockford High School in 1966, he studied retail management. In 1969, he served a tour of duty in Vietnam constructing microwave towers for the U.S. Army. When he returned home from Vietnam, Cliff began working for Hy-Vee Grocery Stores. He worked for Hy-Vee for over 40 years and managed 5 different stores during his career. Cliff was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 22 years and served various positions including trustee and secretary. Earlier this year Cliff was honored as an inductee into the Eagles Hall of Fame.
Cliff enjoyed playing golf, pool, darts, and card games. Cliff was an avid reader, especially of westerns, and was a master of trivia. He liked riding bicycles and participated in RAGBRAI for several years. Cliff was very active in the community and was a supporter of The University of South Dakota’s sports programs, particularly swimming and track. He was a devoted Iowa Hawkeye’s fan.
Cliff was preceded in death by his father Ralph Deverell, mother Ruth Deverell-Horkman, and brothers David and Paul Deverell.
He is survived by his daughters Amy Suhr of Frisco, TX, Erin (Matt) Myers of Frisco,TX, and Jena Deverell of McKinney, TX; grandchildren Carly, Colton, Sadie, Chloe, Jorja, and Tatum; sister Ann (Mike) Boltz of Mason City, IA, and brother Alan Deverell of Salina, KS; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
There will be a celebration of life service on Saturday, July 20, starting at 2 pm at the Eagles Club in Vermillion.
