Florene Mae Larson was born March 9, 1961. She died on September 29, 2024 from complications of cancer treatment.
Florene grew up in the Dalesburg community. She attended rural Marshalltown School in her early years. When Marshalltown School closed, she attended school in Vermillion, graduating from Vermillion High School in 1979. During her senior year of high school she participated in the DECA Program. She had the opportunity to work at National Bank in Vermillion. She was offered a full-time job at the bank upon graduation and has been a dedicated and loyal employee of the same bank (currently BMO) for more than 45 years. Florene developed many lifelong friendships with both co-workers and customers who would specifically ask for her at the bank.
Florene was a special aunt to her two nephews and three nieces. As they grew and participated in school activities, she was their number one fan, cheering them on through rain, wind, and snow. She was there in the bleachers for football, basketball, cheerleading, and track and field, whether it was local contests, state contests, and even college football. She was so proud of each of them. As they grew up and had families, she followed her great-nieces and nephews.
Florene loved doing crafts with her mother, Florence. Together, they embroidered hundreds of kitchen towels. They sold their creations at arts and crafts shows in the area.
Florene is survived by a sister Diane (Paul; deceased) Johnson and their family, Travis (Mindy) Johnson, and Tracey (Todd) Halverson; a brother Larry (June) Larson and their family Heidi (Jason) Savey, Tricia (Jason) Knutson and Marc (Erin) Larson; twelve great-nieces and nephews, Blake, Anna, and Molly Savey; Lane, Siri, and Lila Knutson; Cade and Addison Larson; Macy Johnson, Morgan and Mya Halverson, and Payten Halvorson (Cameron) Smith. Florene was preceded in death by her parents Delsmore (Dellie) and Florence Larson.
Florene was a member of Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion.
