Gary Johnson, 78, of Wakonda, SD passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at his home under hospice care.
Gary was born to Bud and Vera (Meyer) Johnson on December 13, 1947, outside of Wakonda. He grew up in Wakonda area and attended Wakonda and Vermillion schools. He owned and operated Johnson painting for many years.
Gary is survived by his wife of 60 years, Julie, sons Jerry of Gayville, Steven (Shawn) of Wakonda, Kevin (Kim) of Wakonda, Jason of Brookings, daughter Amy (Jay) Blankenfeld of Archer, FL. Also surviving are 16 Grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and siblings Cheryl, Jan and Greg.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Vera (Meyer) Johnson, great-grandparents, one grandson, and two brothers Mike and Ronnie.
