Gerald "Jerry" Sommervold

Gerald “Jerry” Sommervold, 88, of Vermillion, SD passed away Thursday, July 23 at the Sanford Vermillion Hospital.

Jerry was born April 28, 1938, in Union County, SD to Martin and Margaret (Halderson) Sommervold. He graduated from Alcester high school in 1956, he served in the Airforce, and married Donna Davis on June 21, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion. Jerry farmed in the Vermillion area for most of his life.

He is survived by his wife Donna of Vermillion, a son Grant of Burbank, SD and a daughter Shelley (John) Weber of Freeman, SD. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, a brother and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 29 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion, with burial to follow in the Bluffview cemetery in Vermillion. HansenFuneralHome.com.
