Betty Gerke (Macomber)

Betty Jane Gerke, 83, passed away on December 20, 2019 at the Sanford Care Center, Vermillion, SD. Betty was born on October 4, 1936 to Everett & Argona (Oldenburg) Macomber. Betty married Ernie (Al) Beals on November 7, 1953. To this union three children were born, Ernie, Kathy and Debbie. On July 6, 1973 Betty married James B. Gerke.

Betty lived most of her life in the state of Michigan where she worked various jobs, but was most proud of her employment at General Motors for the better part of twenty-five years. Betty loved animals and music. When she was sixteen years old she sang, along with her sister Virginia (Ginger), on a regularly scheduled program with radio station WMUS in Muskegan, MI. Betty was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and when her health permitted, she proudly explained her faith and hope to others. No one was a stranger to Betty.

She is survived by her sisters, Verna Saito, Vermillion, SD, Ginger (Clifford) Mehrer, Sioux City, IA and Darlene (James) Morgan, Hopkins, MI. And a brother, Everett (Clara) Macomber, Wayland, MI. She is also survived by her son Ernie (Brenda) Beals, Anderson, CA, daughters, Kathy (Ed) Haen, Nisiski, AK and Debbie Polfir, Kenai, AK along with eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2:00PM at the Kingdom Hall located at 609 Kennedy Street in Vermillion.
