James Willard Logue (80), Volin, SD, passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 15, 2025, at his home in Sioux Falls, SD.
James (Jim) was born on August 29, 1945, to Cletus and Helen (Smith) Logue in Wakonda, SD. He was a farm boy, through and through, most content when he was outside in nature. He was born into an already bustling family, with two older sisters, Mary and Dee, and three older brothers, Joe, Dick, and John. When he was ten years old, he was joined by his younger brother, Charlie.
Jim spent his whole life in the Wakonda area, a loyal Wakonda School sports fan. If you were ever at a basketball game in the 80's or 90's, you could bet that Jim Logue was in the stands. Loyalty and consistency were the name of the game, and in recent years, Jim and Judy spent lots of time cheering on the USD women's basketball and volleyball teams.
Ever the passionate golfer, Jim was a long-time member of the Glenridge Golf Course in Irene, SD, and really enjoyed being in the traveling league. He boasted several times about his score being below his age. Golf also provided Jim another way to socialize and boy, did he love to “visit”! He told stories with a gleam in his eye and a contagious laugh, always sprinkling in a dash of mischief. Playing pinochle with his buddies was also a source of joy and yes, another way to stretch his extrovert muscles. Jim never met a stranger and cherished his time with family and friends.
Jim proudly served in the US Army from 1966-1968, served in the Vietnam War as a Supply Clerk, and received the Army Commendation Medal. He took tremendous pride in being an American Legion member, and held almost every position, his favorite being Membership and Recruitment.
Jim also honored other veterans by being a part of the firing squad at many funeral services over the years. Jim wore his military service as a badge of honor and never hesitated to walk up to a fellow veteran at the VA, shake his or her hand, and thank them for their service. On October 10, 2023, Jim went on the Midwest Honor Flight with his daughter, Mandy. It was one of the absolute highlights of his life.
Farming was in Jim's blood, and he farmed for over 50 years, deciding it was time to retire a mere two months ago. His farm in Volin was truly his own slice of heaven and it was never far from his heart and mind.
Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Joe, and his parents, and is survived by his wife, Judy, two sons, Dan (Shelly) and Brian (Christophina), two daughters, Stephanie (Kevin Burtness) and Mandy (Nate Petersen), beloved grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wakonda American Legion Post 13 (P.O. Box 494 Wakonda, SD 57073).
