Jason Askew, 47, of Vermillion, SD, passed away on Wednesday, March 20th, in his home.
Jason was born on December 22, 1976, in DeSmet, SD to Edward and Donna (Sherman) Askew. He attended school in Desmet, and joined the SD Army National Guard, serving as a combat engineer. He attended college at SD State School of Mines & Technology. Jason was a gifted software engineer and contributed his skills to several employers in SD and MN. In 2005 Jason married Amy Gapp and adopted his son Max. In 2006, Brody was born, followed by Josie in 2008 and Hazel in 2012. He was working as a software engineer at Eagle Creek in Vermillion.
Jason was a loving father. He was a gifted computer whiz, musician, photographer, cook…. He enjoyed hiking, camping, boating, reading, technology, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children Maxwell, Broden, Josephine, and Hazel, ex-wife Amy, parents Ed and Donna Askew, sister Brenda (Askew) Houge (Rance Gulbraa), brother Lynn Askew (wife Anne), sister-in-law Karen Askew, many nieces and nephews, and special friend Rebecca Kaiser.
He was preceded in death by his brother Todd Askew.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, at 11 am, at the United Church of Christ in Vermillion, SD. Visitation will precede the service at 10 am at the church. Lunch to follow at the church.
