Joseph M. Erickson

Joseph (Joe) Maurice Erickson of Mineral City, Ohio passed away peacefully on June 17th, 2026, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

He was born on May 9, 1949, in Vermillion SD, to Maurice and Lois (Nutwick) Erickson.  Joe spent many years living in Ohio, however his heart always belonged to SD. He was a man with a deep faith who loved his family and friends. If you were blessed to be a part of his circle, he would do anything for you. He would always check in with you and help you anyway he could. He was creative and innovative, always making or improving machinery or tools. He had to have a project, and you could find him in the garage tinkering on his latest John Deere tractor. Come Fall, spring and summer, you would find him helping his friends on the farm plowing, seeding, harvesting, and helping in the shop. He loved a game night with friends and family with some friendly competition and laughs. His passing will leave a huge hole in many people’s hearts.

He is survived by his wife Susie Erickson; his son and daughter in law Seth and Belinda Erickson, his beloved granddaughters Karley and Isabella; his daughter Brita and family; Stepsons Chad and Jamie Schupbach. His sisters Kathy (Don) Snyder, Helen Larson, Margaret (Mick) Schlisner; And many cousins nieces and nephews.

His Celebration of Life will be held at 11am Friday, June 26th, at the Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion. Followed by a graveside committal at Dalesburg Cemetery and a luncheon and gathering back at the Dalesburg Lutheran Church.
