Judy (Anderson) Cody, long-time resident of Vermillion, passed away peacefully in the home she loved, on September 14, 2025. Judy was born on September 3,1942 to Gordon and Delphine Anderson of Vermillion, South Dakota. She is survived by her brother Jerome Anderson of Vermillion and sister Susan Rasmussen of Vermillion, daughter and son-in law Jimmie and Scott Putman of Wakonda, South Dakota (with grandchildren Zachary, Marcus and Matthew Putman); daughter and son-in-law Jacqueline and Brian Stoltenburg of Watertown, South Dakota (with grandchildren Colten Stoltenburg, Katelyn and Keon Briscoe, Tessa and Austin Farnham and, Tyler Stoltenburg); daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Russell Olson of Madison, South Dakota (with grandchildren Ben Theophilus and Anna Theophilus, Victoria Olson and Gordon Olson); son Jonathon Kluck and Julie Girard (with grandchildren Jackson and Cooper Girard); daughter and son-in-law Julie and Andrew Friessen of Iowa City, Iowa (with grandchildren Jack, Isabella and Samuel Friessen); stepson and daughter-in-law John and Lori Cody of Rockledge, Florida (with grandson Joel and Hanah Cody); stepdaughter Liz and Ed Williams of Wylie, Texas (with grandchildren Audra and Truly); stepdaughter Michelle and Chuck Ritter of Mercer Island, Washington (with grandchildren Alden and Beckett); great grandchildren Christian, Parker, Serena, Norah, Milo and Rory; many nieces and nephews; and dear caregiver Hope “Autumn” Schladoer.

A proud 1961 graduate of Vermillion High School, Judy later went on and earned a nursing degree from Lake Area Technical Institute in 1983. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Judy married Gene Kluck of Watertown, South Dakota in 1961. The couple moved to Manhattan Kansas where Judy worked as a nursing assistant supporting her husband going through veterinary medicine school. Judy and Gene returned to South Dakota; the family raised five wonderful children living in Watertown.

In 1984 Judy moved to Vermillion. She worked as a nurse at Sister James Nursing Home, Yankton, South Dakota. She later met James Cody, and they married in 1988. The two of them spent many years greeting locals and strangers (although no one was ever a stranger to Judy) in the restaurant business at Cody’s Homestead in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Judy loved her family. She will be remembered for her kind, kind heart and the way in which she unquestionably cared for others. Judy was known for her love of tennis and gardening. She took such pride in her beautiful home and garden. She had a fierce competitive spirit especially when it came to all things USD. Go YOTES!

Private family service will be held.
