Marcy Marie Lund, 88, of Vermillion, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton, SD.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00am, Friday, November 22, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion, SD.  Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Thursday, November 21, at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.

Marcy was born July 27, 1936, to Frieda (Kelley) and Herbert Panko. She was baptized on August 16, 1936, at St. John Lutheran Church, Sterling, NE, confirmed on March 18, 1951, at Hope Lutheran Church, Burr, NE. She graduated from Cook, NE High School in May of 1954. She graduated from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing on August22, 1958.

 Marcy married Robert Lund on April 11, 1959, in Lincoln, NE. They lived in Lincoln, NE, Sioux City, IA, Wayne, NE and Vermillion, SD where they raised their family.

Marcy was Clay County Community Health Nurse for 25 years in Vermillion. When she retired from Community Health in July of 2001, she took the Parish Nurse preparation course at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. Marcy was the first Parish Nurse at Trinity Lutheran Church and in Vermillion. She started Health Ministry through Parish Nursing. She was awarded the Community Health Service Award by the Dakota Hospital Foundation, and later received the Joy of Nursing Award from the SD Nurses Association. She volunteered at Head Start, Hospice chaplain, served Trinity in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Bible study groups, women’s group and a Deacon. Marcy’s priorities were faith, family, friends and a passion for nursing.

Marcy held special memories of the “special weekends” with each individual grandchild, annual Family Vacations at Lewis and Clark Lake, and their Family Winter Vacations for a weekend at a motel with their children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed celebrating very special memory events such as birthdays, baptisms, confirmations, graduations, weddings and holidays with family and friends. 

Marcy is survived by her three daughters: Lori (Kirk) Guymon, Rapid City, SD, Linda (Roy) Wilcox, Yankton, SD, and Lisa (Dale) Van Heek Crofton, NE. Also, grandchildren: Andy Guymon, Rapid City, SD, Lindsey (Chris) Jacobson, Yankton, SD, Laura (Zach) Baca Carbondale, CO, Mark (Virginija) Wilcox, St. Paul, MN, Michael Wilcox, Jenna (Evan) Hegge, Brandon Valley, SD, Nicole (Brian) Block, Sibley, IA, Derek (Nicole) Van Heek, Crofton, NE, Hannah Van Heek, Sioux Falls, SD, and 20 great-grandchildren. Others surviving include sister Diane (Gene) Ekhoff, Cook, NE, sister-in-law Juda Panko, brother Arlin Stutheit, Nebraska City, NE, and Randy (Jo) Stutheit, Lincoln, NE.  She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, and one brother, Herbert Panko.
