Marty James Johnson

Marty James Johnson, age 62, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on March 6, 1963, to Donna and Jim Johnson, Marty was a lifelong resident of South Dakota and a proud, hardworking member of his community. For 40 years, he owned and operated Vermillion Garbage Service, building not only a business but also lasting relationships throughout the area.

Marty was first married to Monica Olson, with whom he shared many years before her passing. On September 21, 2012, he married Sue Job, and together they created a life full of laughter, love, and the joy of family.

Marty had a passion for classic cars and could often be found proudly showing them at car shows. He cherished time spent with family and friends, whether sharing stories, turning a wrench, or simply enjoying the moment. He also had a deep love for his dogs, Bubba and Lucy, who were constant companions and brought him daily comfort and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donna and Jim Johnson, and his sister, Cindy Balleweg.

Marty is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sue Johnson, and her four children: Trevor (Audrey) Job, Tyler (Caurel Robison) Job, Tara (Doug) Wedel, and Tasia (Alex) Hofman, and twelve grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister Cheri (Ronnie) Ahrendt, as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Marty’s strength, humor, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
