Michael Clare Keeley, 79, of Wakonda SD, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD.
He was born on November 14,1946, in Yankton SD, to Mae (Harmon) and Clare Keeley. Visitation services for Mike will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4-7pm at Hansen Funeral Home, Irene, SD. Burial will take place at a later date.
Mike grew up outside of Wakonda, SD and graduated from Wakonda High School in 1964.
He then attended college for one year at USD/S, Springfield, SD. From there, he enlisted in the United States Army for 2 years serving in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Garden Grove, California. There he worked as a crane operator for many years with Modern Alloys. His favorite job site was working in the Tahachipi Mountains. Mike enjoyed watching the California Angels and never missed a home game.
After retirement, he moved back to Wakonda in 2000. Mike made the daily rounds at Charlies Bus Service and Pollman Excavation, where he served as head groundskeeper and animal trainer. Mike believed hard work was simply part of life.
He didn't seek recognition, he just showed up, got the job done, and quietly helped the people around him. He never found a car or gun he didn't like.
Mike was a member of Operating Engineers Union of California.
Survivors include his siblings, Bonnie (Bruce) Bentaas, Centerville, SD, Maureen Keeley, Sioux Falls, SD. Nieces Keeley Pollman of Sioux Falls, SD, Rachel (Nick) Martz, Sage and Oakley, Centerville, SD. Nephews Mike (Casey) Pollman, Miles, Max, and Macy, Wakonda SD, Zak (Molly) Knutson, Burbank, CA.
He was preceded in death his parents Mae and Clare Keeley, sisters Mary Valentine, Carol Pollman, Pat Knutson, Donna Keeley, brothers in law Ken Valentine and John Pollman, along with many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
