Michael O. Munkvold

     Michael Olaf Munkvold, of Irene SD, passed away on March 27, age 61 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, SD, after his battle with cancer.

     He was born July 6th,1962, to W. Ordell and Carol Munkvold (Holsether) at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. He was confirmed and baptized into the Christian faith.

     He attended Lone-Star, a one room schoolhouse in Viborg, SD, until 2nd Grade. He went on to go to Viborg Public school where he graduated high school in 1980. He continued his education at Mitchell Tech where he received a degree in Meat Cutting. Upon graduating he returned home to help run his family farm and start his own custom baling business.

     Throughout his life he continued farming, custom bailing, and driving semi. He moved around throughout his life to stay close to his family. His most recent employment was Grow Mark in Yankton, SD. He enjoyed going to auctions, haying, and fishing. He spent his last few years riding and traveling on his motorcycles. Hs favorite place to ride being the Black Hills.

     Michael is survived by children: Larry Carrino of Viborg, David (Jordin) Carrino, grandson

Caysen of Irene, and Anna Munkvold of Irene; mother Carol Munkvold, sister Denise Wyman of Marion; aunt Pam Munkvold of San Tan Valley, AZ, aunt Sheryl Heirigs of Madison, SD, uncle Charles Holsether of Wall; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

     Michael was preceded in death by his father W. Ordell Munkvold, grandparents and other relatives.

     The Family would like to thank any friends or family that had a hand in helping him through this tough time.

     Special thanks to Pioneer Memorial. Heartfelt gratitude to Glen Danielson for the extra care, compassion and friendship he offered Michael not only in his last year but for his whole life.

     A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hansen Funeral Home at 2PM, April 4, with a lunch to follow at the Irene Community Center.

     Visitation will be Wednesday, April 3, from 5 to 7PM at the Hansen funeral Home in Irene.
