Patricia L. Tigert

Patricia L.Tigert, age 87, of Vermillion SD, died on Thursday, March 5, at the Sanford Care Center in Vermillion, SD. She was born on March 15, 1938, in Watertown, SD to Otto and Marion Barlund. Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion, SD.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion. A private family burial will be held at the Pleasant Valley Church Cemetery in rural Vermillion.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, at Hansen Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m.

Pat attended school in Wilmot, SD and graduated from Wilmot High School in 1956. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics Education from South Dakota State University in 1960. She taught home economics classes in Menno, SD, where she met Roger Tigert, and then taught in Armour, SD. Roger and Pat were married on June 1, 1961, in Wilmot, SD.

After living in Red Lodge, MT, they moved to Vermillion, SD where Roger attended the University of South Dakota. They then lived in Oldham, SD, Judith Gap, MT, Winnett, MT, Hays, MT, Joplin, MT, Wakonda, SD and Vermillion, SD. Roger served as a school superintendent for many years and Pat taught home economics in Menno SD, Armour, SD and Winnett, MT. She received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from the University of South Dakota in 1979, She worked as a school counselor for several years in the Wakonda and Hurley school districts. Roger and Pat then started the Tigert Art Gallery in Vermillion where she worked until retirement.

Pat loved reading, knitting and crocheting, traveling, camping and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pat and Roger traveled to Montana and Colorado each summer for many years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion.

Pat is survived by their three children,Teresa (Larry) Janssen of Crofton, NE, Robert Tigert of Vermillion, Phillip (Jennifer) Tigert of Douglas, WY. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Amanda (Janssen) McColgan, Tim Tigert, Tayler (Tigert) Walker, AJ Janssen, Tessa (Tigert) Pyle, Sam Tigert, Sydney Tigert, Tyler Janssen, Trevor Tigert, and Travis Tigert; six great-grandchildren, Brayden Walker, Blakely Walker, James Tigert, Allie Tigert, Everleigh Janssen and Iversen Janssen as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, parents, sister and brother-in-law Sandy and Cornelius Smit, sister and brother-in-law Bev and Richard Palmer, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
