Robert Gene Frank was born on May 10, 1943, in Yankton, SD, to Victor and Eileen Frank. At 6 months he moved to Beresford to live with and was raised by his grandparents Martin and Dolly Schneider. He attended a rural one room school and graduated from Beresford High School in 1961.
He helped construct I-29. He graduated from Southern State Teacher's College in 1964. He married Ruby (Bobbie) Hinrickson in Beresford in 1967 and they moved to Vermillion. He worked for the City of Vermillion for 30 years, 26 of those years as a policeman obtaining the rank of LT. He then worked for Sioux Valley Vermillion Hospital until he retired.
He was a member of Vermillion Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, 36 years as a Firefighter Captain and Assistant Chief.
He and his family loved to hunt, fish, camp, and travel. He and Ruby traveled all over the country and Germany visiting their sons during their military careers. He was very active in shooting sports. He was a long-time member of the NRA.
He is survived by his wife Ruby; sons SMSgt (ret) Shawn and his wife, SMSgt (ret) Robin, Col. Craig and his wife, Kristina; grandchildren, twins Christopher and Chelsi, Elisabeth, Sgt Anastasia Frank-Wise (and her husband Spc Jake Wise), and Maximilian; great grandson due in August; two step-grandsons, TSgt Josh Doble, and Maj. Brandon Doble (Kayla) and 3 step great grandchildren; brother, Kent (Judy); sister, Beverly; and many nieces and nephews.
