Roger Arnold Bjerkaas, 83 of Viborg, SD passed away on February 11th at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home under Hospice care. Roger passed away surrounded by family.
Roger was born on July 12, 1942, on the family farm near Center Point to Arnold and Vera (Peterson) Bjerkaas. He was baptized and confirmed at Meldal Lutheran Church.
Roger worked many places through out his life including Viborg Creamery hauling milk, custom spraying and trucking for farmers around the area. Roger farmed until moving to Viborg in 1996 at that time went to work for the Viborg Coop Elevator Association. Upon retirement he resided in Viborg until his death.
Roger enjoyed family, farming, visiting with friends and sports; but his real love was baseball. It was the highlight of his life coaching his son and the local boy’s baseball teams. He was also a well-known umpire around the area and spent many weekends umpiring tournaments in the area. Roger always carried his umpire gear with him because he never knew when he would be asked to umpire.
Survivors include son, Brian (Tami) Bjerkaas, Viborg, SD; daughter, Kristi (Darin) Armbrust, Grafton, ND; grandchildren Austin (Ivey) Bjerkaas, Emily Bjerkaas (fiance Zach Erickson), Steven (Stephanie) Bjerkaas and Sadie Armbrust; great grandchildren Baylor and Ella; niece Ruby (Scott) Schmidt and nephew Mike Bjerkaas and many cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Robert and sister-in-law Eleanor.
