Thomas “Tom” Buckley, 91, lifelong resident of Wakonda, SD, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg after complications from a broken hip.

Tom was born on September 30, 1934, in Wakonda, and spent his entire life in the community he loved. Farming was not only his livelihood but his passion. He was a devoted steward of the land. Tom valued his independence and found joy in the hard work and rhythm of farm life. His dedication and quiet strength left a lasting mark on those who knew him and on the land he nurtured.

Tom is survived by his two sisters, Joan Azzopardi, Mountain View, CA and Mrs. Dan (Dorothy) McCarthy, Omaha, NE, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael “Bud” and Frances Buckley, and his sister Mary Phillips.

Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wakonda, on Thursday, September 11th at 10:30am. Lunch and fellowship will follow the service at the Father McMahon Center. Private burial service for the family will follow at St. Columbkille Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wakonda, South Dakota.
