Todd Giffin, age 63, of rural Burbank, South Dakota, passed away at his home surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer on December 22, 2025. A Celebration of Todd's life will be held at a later date.
Todd Edward Giffin was born on February 7, 1962, to Kenneth and Kaye Giffin. He grew up in Frog Pond in Hawarden, Iowa. Todd met the love of his life, Mary, on February 8, 1979. They were married not long after on November 9, 1979, and spent 46 years creating wonderful memories together. Todd and Mary had three beautiful children, Little Kenny, Tanya, and Christopher Todd.
Todd worked for the City of Dakota City, Nebraska, for many years and was the Maintenance Foreman at the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System in Vermillion, South Dakota, until his passing. A job he loved!
Todd was the jack of all trades and was Mr. Fix It. He enjoyed his projects and teaching his skills to others. Todd and his wife completely remodeled two homes that they lived in during their marriage. He thought of and executed many events and projects for some of the best memories for those in his life.
Todd's favorite place to visit over the last ten years was Index, Washington, and he had hoped to retire there.
Todd is survived by his beloved wife, Mary. His daughter, Tanya (Heath), and son, Christopher. His four grandchildren that he absolutely adored and spoiled, Elizabeth, Kelsey, Brodie, and Karsin. His four sisters, Cindy (Steve) Armstrong, Robin (Blair) Smith, Julie (Randy) Utesch, and Beth (Matt) Bohr. His three sisters-in-law, Linda Lemon, Jane Johnson (Jack), and Jenny Johnson (Pete) and his brother-in-law, John (Kim) McCleary. Many nieces and nephews and beloved cousins.
Todd is preceded in death by his son, Little Kenny, his parents, and grandparents.
Todd was a proud and protective Husband, Dad, and Papa. The rock of the family. He fiercely loved his family and those close to him. He was the strongest man and was determined to live and fight the cancer until the end.
Todd had a strong impact on many people and was a second Father and Papa to many in his life, especially to Mary's younger sisters, Jane and Jenny. Todd will be missed by many people that had the pleasure of knowing him.
I loved you then, I love you still. Always have, always will. Forever and a day.
The family would like to thank the St. Croix Hospice care team for their brief support, care, and compassion to Todd and his family during his final days.
In lieu of flowers and plants, please consider making a donation in Todd's memory to the Vermillion Public Schools Foundation in Vermillion, South Dakota.
