Tyler Chasing Hawk, 31, of Vermillion, South Dakota, departed this world on October 24th, 2026, with his family around him.
Tyler’s story began in Vermillion, the first of two children born to Gayle Chasing Hawk. He was raised in the loving care of his grandparents, Ernest and Pauline Pourier. At the age of three, Tyler was already playing Mario Brothers and developed a love for video games that he shared with his mother. Two years later, he became a brother and shared the same birthday with his sister, Taylor; they were born five years, two hours, and eighteen minutes apart. One of his favorite childhood memories was when he went to Petco and brought home his first pet; a cat that he named Muffin. From then on, he became an avid cat lover and would not only feed his cat, but stray cats, too.
Tyler attended Vermillion Public Schools and graduated from Vermillion High School in May of 2013. He was active in football, track, discus throw, and boxing. It was during a high school trip to Mitchell Vo TECH where he attended a culinary camp that he found his passion for cooking. He would later use his cooking skills at Toby’s Lounge, Bunyan’s, Eagles, Hartford Steak House and Café Brule. He enjoyed traveling and explored Rome, Greece, Italy twice. Other notable trips included visiting Disneyland, Minnesota, Las Vegas, Parker, AZ, Lake Havasu, the Hoover Dam, Rapid City, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, North Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Nevada, California, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Chicago, and Boston. During his free time, he enjoyed watching movies and was a huge Marvel fan.
He had a kind-hearted, generous nature about him, always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He will greatly be missed by all who know him. He will always be remembered for playing rock band and Halo, his Silk Road orders, listening to Escape the Faith, his contagious laugh, his dimples, and his smile that could light up the room.
Blessed to share his life is his mother Gayle Chasing Hawk, his sister Taylor Chasing Hawk, his grandma Pauline Pourier, his uncle Dale Chasing Hawk (Teresa) and his cousins, Jacob, Caleb, and Grace Chasing Hawk. Hunka relatives Josh Portiner and Robert Burdette.
Tyler is preceded in death by his grandpa, Ernest Pourier and his beloved cat Muffin.
